This South African plant is related to the Banana and is an evergreen perennial that will reach up to 2 m in height. It is grown for both it's outstanding foliage plus its spectacular flowers. It prefers a position from full-sun to part shade, grows well in cool climates but thrives with some protection from severe frosts and is extremely drought tolerant.
The plants should be well watered during the growing season, and they will want regular feeding with a complete fertiliser while they are in active growth. A well known plant that is loved by gardeners all over the world.
